Ceasefire Brings Hope for Peaceful Resolution in Kashmir: Prof. Abdul Ghani Butt
May 13, 2025The recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan has sparked renewed optimism for peace in South Asia, with Kashmiri leaders urging dialogue over conflict.
Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, a senior figure in the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. He praised the development as a crucial step toward lasting peace, crediting the role of the United States in facilitating the breakthrough.
In his statement from Srinagar, Professor Butt highlighted the importance of dialogue in resolving the long-standing Kashmir issue. He firmly believes that only sincere, productive discussions can lead to a just and enduring solution for the region.
According to Butt, both India and Pakistan understand the devastating consequences of war. He stressed that continuous hostility only leads to destruction, suffering, and setbacks for both nations. A peaceful approach, he emphasized, is not just preferable—it’s essential.
Thanking Almighty Allah for what he called a “timely” ceasefire, Professor Butt acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role in accepting India’s offer. He commended the country’s political maturity and sense of responsibility, calling it a sign of wise leadership.
Professor Butt also expressed hope that Kashmir would remain a central issue in all future diplomatic engagements between the two countries. He emphasized that peace and stability in South Asia are directly tied to the resolution of the Kashmir conflict.
He further noted that while concerns like terrorism and water disputes often dominate discussions, they are secondary to the core issue of Kashmir. Without addressing the root of the conflict, he warned, no peace effort can be truly successful.
Urging leaders from both nations to prioritize wisdom and long-term vision, Butt called for a unified effort to guide the region toward lasting peace and development.
