Kashmiri delegation urges global action against Indian brutality in IIOJK
June 26, 2025A Kashmiri delegation in Geneva has called on the international community to take immediate and concrete steps to end the brutal repression being carried out by Indian forces in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The delegation members including Shamim Shawl, Dr. Saira Farooq Shah, Naila Altaf Kayani, and Mehr-un-Nisa Rehman briefed diplomats, representatives of international NGOs, and officials of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on the grave human rights situation in the occupied territory. They highlighted the recent escalation in violence following a false flag operation by Indian forces in Pahalgam.
The Kashmiri representatives expressed serious concern over the continuing bloodshed, arbitrary arrests, extrajudicial killings of youth, and inhumane treatment of political activists and human rights defenders by Indian forces. They urged the UNHRC and other relevant international bodies to hold Indian troops accountable for their crimes.
The delegation emphasized that the absence of an effective accountability mechanism has emboldened Indian forces to intensify their brutal actions against unarmed civilians. They stated that the illegal abrogation of Articles 370 and 35-A has plunged the territory into a state of prolonged uncertainty, where fundamental freedoms are entirely curtailed.
The delegation further pointed out the widespread use of black laws such as the Public Safety Act (PSA) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) to suppress dissent and silence voices of truth. The targeting of youth, political workers, and rights activists has created a climate of fear and insecurity among the population.
Calling attention to the ongoing crimes against humanity in IIOJK, the Kashmiri delegation urged the international community to hold India accountable for its systematic human rights violations in the occupied territory.
