The Modi Regime is Using the Israeli Model to Colonize IIOJK and Erase its Identity
April 23, 2026The actions taken on August 5 2019 started a dark and brutal chapter for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The Indian government led by the BJP decided to remove the special status of the region without the consent of the local people. This was not just a legal change but it was the start of a massive attack on the rights of the Muslim population. New Delhi is now using every possible method to take away the power and the voice of the people in IIOJK. They are targeting the politics and the culture and the religion of the region all at the same time to destroy the spirit of the people.
Implementing the Israeli Model of Illegal Settlement and Control
It is now very clear that India is following the Israeli model of occupation in Palestine within IIOJK. This strategy focuses on taking land from the local people and giving it to outsiders to change the reality on the ground. By using this model the Indian administration wants to turn the local population of IIOJK into a minority in their own homeland. This is a deliberate plan to take control of the resources and the land while pushing the indigenous people to the margins. This type of colonization is designed to make the occupation permanent and impossible to reverse.
New Land Laws and the Forced Seizure of Local Property
In 2020 the Indian government introduced new land laws that allow any Indian citizen to buy property in IIOJK. Before this only the local people had the right to own land but those protections have been destroyed. Since then thousands of acres have been taken by the state for military use and for big businesses. This has caused a lot of fear among the local farmers and residents of IIOJK who feel they are being robbed of their heritage. Taking the land is a direct way to weaken the local population and make them dependent on the state.
Changing the Population Balance through Demographic Engineering
The most dangerous part of the Indian strategy is the effort to change the demographic makeup of IIOJK. More than four million residency certificates have been issued to people from outside the region since 2020. This massive influx of non locals is a clear attempt to dilute the Muslim majority in IIOJK. The goal is to change the voting population so that the results of any future election or vote will favor the Indian government. By changing the people who live there India hopes to end the demand for freedom once and for all.
The Total Suppression of Political Rights and Freedom of Speech
Since 2019 the political life of IIOJK has been silenced by force. Almost all local leaders were arrested and many remain in jail under harsh laws that allow detention without any trial. The people of IIOJK are not allowed to protest or even speak their minds in public. Journalists and activists are being targeted and arrested just for doing their jobs. This atmosphere of fear is meant to break the resistance of the people and stop them from demanding their basic human rights. IIOJK has been turned into a place where the law is used as a weapon against the citizens.
The War on Local Culture and Islamic Identity
There is a systematic attempt to erase the cultural and religious identity of the people in IIOJK. The administration is changing the names of historical places and landmarks to reflect a different narrative. Traditional religious gatherings in IIOJK are often restricted and the education system is being forced to follow a specific ideological path. This is a cultural onslaught that aims to destroy the history and the sense of belonging of the local Muslims. When a community is denied its culture it faces a threat to its very existence as a distinct group.
Shocking Human Rights Statistics and the Cost of Resistance
The human cost of this occupation in IIOJK is very high and it is backed by evidence from various human rights groups. According to reports more than ninety six thousand people have lost their lives in IIOJK since 1989. Since the crackdown in 2019 thousands of people including children have been detained and many have been injured by pellet guns. The region also suffered a total internet shutdown that lasted for over seven months which is a record for any country. These numbers show the extreme level of force being used to keep the population of IIOJK under control.
Economic Destruction and the Loss of Local Livelihoods
The economy of IIOJK is being destroyed to punish the people. The fruit industry and the tourism sector which are the lifeblood of the region have suffered billions of dollars in losses. While the government claims it is bringing development the local people of IIOJK are losing their jobs and their businesses. Most of the big contracts for mining and construction are being given to companies from outside the region. This economic marginalization is a tool used to break the will of the people and force them to accept the new reality.
The International Responsibility to Stop the Brutality
IIOJK is a disputed territory recognized by the United Nations and it is not an internal matter of India. Many UN resolutions have called for a plebiscite to let the people of IIOJK decide their own future. However the world has remained mostly silent as India continues to violate international laws and human rights. This lack of action has allowed the situation to get worse every day. The international community must hold the Indian government accountable for its actions and protect the rights of millions of people who are living under a brutal military occupation in IIOJK.
The Unbroken Spirit of the People against the Occupation Despite the massive military presence and the cruel policies the people of IIOJK remain brave and undeterred. The history of the region shows that the spirit of the people cannot be crushed by force or by fraud. The struggle for self determination is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people and it will continue until they get justice. India may change the laws and bring in outsiders but it can never win the hearts of the people in IIOJK. The demand for dignity and freedom is alive and it will stay alive until the occupation ends.
