A towering figure in the Kashmir freedom movement, Sheikh Ghulam Hassan, fondly known as “Kranti,” was remembered with reverence and resolve at a condolence gathering.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter held a heartfelt condolence meeting yesterday to honor the memory of senior Kashmiri freedom leader Sheikh Ghulam Hassan, also known as Kranti, who recently passed away in Vitrgam, Sopore, in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The session was presided over by Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, alongside a number of prominent Hurriyat leaders and activists, who gathered to pay tribute to Hassan’s lifelong contributions to the Kashmir freedom movement.

In his address, Safi described Sheikh Ghulam Hassan as a selfless, principled, and unwavering leader who dedicated his entire life to the cause of Kashmir’s right to self-determination.

“He stood firm through every trial and tribulation, and his efforts will forever serve as a source of inspiration for future generations,” Safi stated.

The participants of the meeting echoed similar sentiments, calling Sheikh Ghulam Hassan a courageous symbol of resistance whose legacy transcends time. They highlighted his sacrifices, resilience, and integrity, saying he always prioritized the collective freedom struggle over personal interests.

His demise, they added, is a profound loss for the freedom movement, but his ideals continue to light the path for Kashmiri youth striving for liberation.

The gathering concluded with special prayers (fateha) for the departed soul and all other martyrs of the Kashmir cause, asking for eternal peace and high ranks in the hereafter for those who gave their lives for the region’s freedom.

During the session, Hurriyat leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continue the mission left behind by Sheikh Ghulam Hassan and other martyrs of the movement. They emphasized that the struggle for freedom and justice will persist until its logical conclusion is achieved, regardless of the challenges.

Prominent leaders who attended the meeting included Advocate Pervez Ahmed, Mahmood Ahmed Saghar, Mir Tahir Masood, Muhammad Altaf Butt, Haji Muhammad Sultan, Sheikh Abdul Mateen, Sheikh Yaqoob, and many others. Their presence was a testament to the respect and admiration Sheikh Ghulam Hassan commanded across the political spectrum.

His death has left a void in the leadership of the IIOJK resistance, but his principled legacy remains alive in the hearts of those committed to the cause of Kashmir’s freedom.
