Hardships Intensified in IIOJK ahead of India Independence Day
August 12, 2024In anticipation of India’s Independence Day on August 15, Indian forces have ramped up security measures in Indian-illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, causing widespread discomfort among the local population.
Residents are facing increased vehicle checks, random frisking of pedestrians, and intensive cordon-and-search operations. This heightened security, aimed at asserting control, has exacerbated fear and unease in the region.
Indian forces have implemented a multi-layered approach, including ground and aerial surveillance, particularly in Srinagar, Islamabad, Kishtwar, Doda, and along the Jammu-Srinagar highway. Paramilitary troops, bunkers, and barricades have been set up to bolster these measures.
During these operations, numerous youths have been arrested in house raids and searches. The BJP-led Indian government, in its push to assert dominance over the region, has also mandated that all residents display the Indian flag at their homes on August 15.
Indian intelligence agencies are closely watching political activities and media personnel who oppose the BJP’s policies. This scrutiny highlights the regime’s efforts to suppress dissent and control the narrative within the occupied territory.
As Indian forces continue their operations across various districts, including Islamabad, Kishtwar, Udhampur, and Doda, the local population endures increased scrutiny and repression. The heavy-handed approach highlights the ongoing strain and tension in IIOJK as the Indian government seeks to consolidate its control.
