The Plight of Kashmiri Detainees in Indian Jails

The Plight of Kashmiri Detainees in Indian Jails

December 18, 2023 Off By Sharp Media

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has expressed deep concern over the ongoing illegal detention of Hurriyat leaders and activists, decrying the inhumane treatment meted out to them by communal authorities in Indian jails. In a recent statement issued in Srinagar, an APHC spokesman highlighted the dire conditions in which the detainees, representing the freedom aspirations of the people of Kashmir, find themselves.

The APHC spokesman lamented the harsh reality faced by these individuals, confined in what he described as “hell-like” Indian jails, where they are systematically denied legal rights and basic amenities. The detainees, including prominent figures such as APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, and many others, have become victims of what the APHC alleges are fabricated charges and political vendettas.

The spokesman underscored the grave challenges faced by the brave people of Kashmir, who confront a formidable military power through state terrorism, arbitrary arrests, physical and mental torture, humiliation, and the confiscation of government services, properties, lands, and residential houses. Despite these adversities, the people of Kashmir exhibit unwavering dedication, steadfastness, and exemplary zeal in resisting what they perceive as Indian oppression.

The APHC emphasized that the incarcerated leaders and activists have sacrificed their lives and honor for the noble cause of freedom from Indian subjugation. It called upon international bodies, including the United Nations Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the International Committee of the Red Cross, to take notice of the plight of Kashmiri prisoners and play a pivotal role in resolving the Kashmir dispute per United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The spokesman’s plea resonated with a call for justice for those detained on grounds the APHC deemed unjust, urging the international community to intervene on behalf of the prisoners of conscience. The detainees, he asserted, epitomize an invincible resolve and strong commitment to their sacred mission of freedom, even in the face of ruthless and inhumane treatment by Indian authorities.

As the APHC shines a spotlight on the harsh realities of the Kashmiri detainees, the international community faces a moral obligation to address these concerns and work towards a just resolution of the longstanding Kashmir dispute. The appeal extends beyond political boundaries, emphasizing the need for a concerted effort to uphold human rights and foster an environment where the aspirations of the Kashmiri people are recognized and respected.
