Exposing Indian Double Play in the Ukraine-Russia War
April 8, 2024 BBC report about recruitment of Indian nationals to fight alongside Russian military against
Ukraine and other maneuvers of India in ensuing conflict.
The Modi government is increasingly turning to the United States for arms procurement,
signaling a notable shift away from its traditional reliance on Russia. Despite significant joint
ventures with Russia, such as the BrahMos cruise missile and Su-30MKI fighter jet, India’s
strategic partnership with the U.S. is growing.
Recently, Russia officially raised with New Delhi the issue of India-made ammunition
reaching Ukraine through Europe in the third quarter of last year. There are reports
circulating among Russian and Ukrainian sources that Ukraine may have received Indian
155mm artillery shells (Economic Times).
Recently, despite India’s state of neutrality in the ongoing war, observers spotted Indian-
origin mortar shells and other ammunition on Ukrainian battle grounds.
According to media reports, Germany has consumed its war stockpiles for Ukraine and is in
talks with India about providing and replenishing its ammunition and other military
equipment. The Indian government’s swift negation of such claims reveals something
cooking behind the curtain. The Indian export of such weapons on a mass scale is also
questionable.
Recent Russian excuses not to sell weapons to India show that Russia suspects India of
diverting its own weapons for use against them.
Recent reports from the Indian government reveal a large number of Indians joining Russia’s
war against Ukraine and fighting on the frontlines alongside Russian forces, exposing the
contradictory nature of India. The Indian Embassy in Moscow confirmed the deaths of two
Indian citizens, Mohammed Asfan (30) and Hemal Ashwinbhai Mangukiya (23).
It is also a reality indicator that BJP’s tall claims of Shinning India and economically
developed India are farce and based on falsehood to deceive Indians. It also points out to
pervasive corruption in Indian bureaucracy succumbing to meagre amounts and
endangering its people lives as mercenaries.
India perceives the US policy of pivoting to Asia and re-balancing Asia as a means to utilize
India as a proxy for asserting its global dominance in the South China Sea. As a result, India
has been hesitant to completely rely on the US or Russia for its security issues and needs,
preferring to maintain its own independent strategic vision. India is an unreliable partner for
the US and Russia.
