Indian Forces Intensify Raids in Doda, Harass Muslim Families in IIOJK
April 29, 2025The latest wave of house raids by Indian forces in IIOJK has left residents in fear and frustration, as innocent civilians—particularly from the Muslim community—continue to be targeted under the shadow of state-sanctioned repression.
In yet another act of state aggression, Indian forces launched a series of house raids across 13 different locations in the Doda district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). These late-night operations have heightened tension and anger among locals, especially within the Muslim community, who say they are being systematically harassed.
According to local sources, the raids were intrusive and carried out without prior notice. Families reported that security personnel entered homes, interrogated residents, and seized house documents, mobile phones, laptops, and other digital devices. These actions have left entire neighborhoods under psychological distress.
Women and elderly family members were reportedly harassed during the searches, with several residents claiming that the forces used aggressive language and threatened them with further action. The raids were said to be part of a so-called “security sweep,” but no evidence or arrests were officially announced.
This is not an isolated event. Just days earlier, Indian forces conducted extensive search operations across Srinagar, targeting multiple homes and areas under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Critics argue that this law is increasingly being misused to suppress dissent and intimidate the Muslim population of IIOJK.
The UAPA, often labeled a black law by human rights activists, allows the Indian government to detain individuals without trial for extended periods. Its frequent use in IIOJK has sparked serious concern both domestically and internationally, with watchdog groups calling it a tool of political and religious persecution.
In Doda, the fear among residents is palpable. Many say these raids are designed not for legitimate security reasons but to create a climate of fear and domination. The targeting of Muslim households, in particular, has reinforced concerns about communal profiling and institutionalized discrimination in the region.
Local civil society organizations and human rights defenders have condemned the raids, urging international bodies to intervene and hold the Indian government accountable for its continued violations in the occupied territory.
As the raids continue, the people of IIOJK remain trapped between daily harassment and legal impunity, stripped of basic rights and denied the freedom to live without fear. The Indian state’s escalating actions against Kashmiri Muslims reflect a broader strategy of control and repression under the pretext of national security.
