Kashmiri Female Student Molested in India: Alarming Rise in Muslims’ Assaults
April 29, 2025A young Kashmiri woman pursuing higher education in New Delhi became the latest victim of gender-based violence, reigniting concerns over the safety of students from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
A disturbing case of harassment has emerged from the Indian capital, New Delhi, often criticized for its high rates of sexual violence. A 24-year-old MA student from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) was allegedly molested outside Gate No. 8 of Jamia Millia Islamia University.
The incident occurred on the night of April 27 at around 9:30 PM. The survivor, a second-year postgraduate student, was reportedly assaulted by a 22-year-old male university employee. This shocking episode adds to the growing concerns about the security of Kashmiri students studying across India.
Local law enforcement received a distress call reporting that a man had behaved inappropriately with a woman near the university gate. Jamia Nagar Police Station confirmed the call and began preliminary investigations.
However, no formal complaint was filed on the night of the incident. The matter remained on hold until the next morning, April 28, when the student formally reported the assault and gave her official statement to the police.
The case is now under active investigation. Authorities are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to establish the facts and identify the accused’s motives.
This case isn’t isolated. It comes in the wake of increasing attacks and intimidation targeting Kashmiri students across Indian states. Tensions have escalated since the controversial Pahalgam false flag operation on April 22, after which many students from IIOJK have reported incidents of harassment and profiling.
In response to the growing crisis, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has launched emergency helplines and formed a support network for students facing threats, violence, or discrimination. The organization is also urging universities and state authorities to ensure the safety of students from the conflict-ridden region.
JKSA representatives expressed deep concern over the recent assault, emphasizing that female students, particularly from IIOJK, face dual threats—both gender-based and politically motivated.
Activists and student groups have called for strict action against the accused and are demanding improved campus security, especially near university gates and surrounding areas. Many believe such incidents reflect a larger pattern of targeting Kashmiris in India’s educational spaces.
The victim’s identity remains protected for safety and privacy reasons. Meanwhile, police continue to probe the case, and calls for justice are intensifying across student communities.
