August 5: The Day Kashmiri History Was Taken Away

The people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) continue to live with the pain of August 5, 2019: a day when the Indian government forcefully ended the region’s special status and dragged millions into a new phase of military control. The removal of Article 370, without consulting the people of IIOJK, was not just a change in law. It was a calculated political move to crush the identity, religion, and future of the Muslim-majority population.

This decision was carried out without following any democratic process. No voice from IIOJK was heard. International laws and promises were openly ignored. This act proved that the Modi-led government has no interest in fairness, legality, or justice.

Changing the Population to Weaken the Majority

After this unconstitutional move, the BJP government began taking one decision after another aimed at changing the population structure of IIOJK. Thousands of non-residents have been issued domicile certificates. Land and job opportunities are being provided to outsiders. The right to vote is being silently transferred away from the local population.

This is not a coincidence. This is a carefully planned operation to weaken the Muslim identity of the region. These steps are not meant to develop the area rather they are meant to make the original population powerless in their own homeland.

An Attack on Faith, Culture, and History

In addition to political and legal changes, the Modi regime has launched a continuous campaign to erase the Islamic heritage of IIOJK. Islamic names are being removed. Historical mosques and sites are being sidelined. Religious traditions are being discouraged.

Restrictions on prayer gatherings, interference in mosque affairs, and changes to textbooks clearly show that this is more than policy: it is a war against identity. The aim is to replace the real history of IIOJK with a version approved by those in power. This is not development. This is cultural occupation of the worst kind.

Standing Strong Despite Brutality

Despite constant pressure, the people of IIOJK have shown remarkable strength. They have not accepted these illegal steps. From the streets to the classrooms, their voices continue to rise. The youth, in particular, are refusing to remain silent. They are saying clearly: we will never forget, we will never accept this occupation.

India thought it could silence them through fear and force. But every new injustice has only made the people more determined. Every tear of a mother, every young man taken away, every grave filled with a martyr is proof that the resistance is still alive.

Life in a State of Fear

Today, daily life in IIOJK means living under constant military watch. Checkpoints block every road. Phones are tracked. Internet is regularly cut off. Homes are searched without reason. Children grow up watching violence, arrests, and disappearances.

Reports of torture, illegal custody, and damage to homes are widespread. Agencies like the NIA and SIA continue to arrest innocent people under the cover of “security operations.” This is not peace. This is not law and order. This is life inside a region turned into an open-air prison.

The World Watches in Silence

What adds to the suffering is the silence of the international community. World powers that speak of human rights and dignity are quiet when it comes to IIOJK. They continue their trade ties with India while ignoring the suffering of millions.

The United Nations has long promised a free and fair vote to decide the future of the region. But nothing has been done. Human rights organisations have issued detailed reports, but no action has followed. This silence is not neutral — it is support for oppression.

India’s Strategy Will Not Succeed

India believes it can use soldiers, media control, and legal tricks to break the will of the Kashmiri people. But this is a serious mistake. Force can create fear but it cannot create loyalty. The people of IIOJK are not fighting for land alone. They are standing for their culture, their faith, and their future.

No law, no army, no court can take away the connection between the people of IIOJK and their land. The more India tries to change the reality, the stronger the people become.

Pakistan’s Firm Support for the Oppressed

Pakistan has always supported the just struggle of the people of IIOJK. This support is based on shared religion, shared pain, and shared history. Pakistan will continue to raise its voice at every global forum, including the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

We demand action, not just words. The people of IIOJK deserve their right to choose their own future. This is not a request rather it is a recognised right under international law.

A Legitimate Struggle That Cannot Be Crushed

The people of IIOJK are facing the worst form of occupation: political, religious, and military. But their determination has not weakened. They will not forget what was done on August 5, 2019. They will not accept laws forced upon them. They will not give up their right to justice and freedom.

The Modi regime can redraw maps and change laws, but it cannot change what is written in the hearts of the people. This is not just a conflict over land. It is a fight for identity, self-respect, and basic human rights. The flame of freedom continues to burn in IIOJK. The world must choose: will it support the truth, or will it stay silent while more people are stripped of their future?
