Surge in Repression: Over 2,500 Detained in IIOJK After Pahalgam Operation

In a continuation of its punitive policies, India has launched another crackdown on Kashmiris in the wake of a controversial operation in Pahalgam—leaving behind mass arrests, destroyed homes, and rising fear across occupied IIOJK.

India is once again being accused of using state terrorism as a systematic tool to collectively punish Kashmiris in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). A new wave of repression has intensified following the April 22 Pahalgam incident, widely labeled by observers as a false flag operation.

Since the Pahalgam event, Indian forces have detained over 2,500 Kashmiris and demolished at least 36 residential homes, sparking widespread outrage and fear among local communities.

The Modi-led BJP regime continues to escalate its oppressive tactics in the occupied region. Fake encounters, extrajudicial killings, mass raids, and cordon-and-search operations have now become routine, turning life in IIOJK into a state of constant surveillance and intimidation.

In just the month of April, nine Kashmiris were martyred during these operations. Additionally, Indian authorities seized the properties of 31 civilians, further stripping families of their security and livelihoods.

Analysts and human rights defenders argue that these acts are not isolated, but part of a broader political project. The fascist Hindutva ideology of the ruling BJP is being systematically implemented in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with the aim of reshaping its demography, identity, and political aspirations.

By targeting ordinary civilians—especially those linked to the region’s long-standing call for self-determination—the Indian government appears determined to crush every symbol of resistance.

Critics warn that India’s actions in Kashmir are gross violations of international law, including the Geneva Conventions, and violate basic human rights protections. These include protection from arbitrary arrest, illegal detention, destruction of property, and collective punishment.

Global silence, they argue, only emboldens the Modi regime to pursue its aggressive agenda unchecked. The international community, particularly the United Nations and global human rights organizations, is being urged to intervene before the situation deteriorates further.

Rights groups are calling for immediate investigations into the mass detentions, property destruction, and civilian killings. There is a growing demand for India to be held accountable for what many describe as crimes against humanity in IIOJK.

As the crackdown continues, Kashmiris face mounting hardships while their pleas for justice remain largely unheard by the outside world.
