A protest erupted in Mirgund, North Kashmir, as residents blocked the Srinagar-Baramulla highway to demand action on severe water scarcity. The demonstration, involving both men and women, brought traffic to a halt.

The residents expressed frustration over the persistent lack of drinking water. Despite repeated appeals to authorities, their pleas had been ignored, leading them to protest. “We face immense hardships due to the water shortage. Our requests for help have been ignored,” they told reporters.

The protesters demanded immediate action from the Jal Shakti Department. They requested either repairs to the water pipes or the provision of tankers to their area. “If the pipes can’t be fixed, we need tankers to deliver water,” they said.

The standoff lasted until the Deputy Superintendent of Police Pattan and other officials arrived. The protesters dispersed after receiving assurances that their concerns would be addressed.
