India’s Aggressive Policies Threaten Identity of Jammu and Kashmir
July 24, 2024The Indian government has made eight major decisions recently, targeting the cultural and demographic identity of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). These include granting domicile status to over 500,000 Hindu-Sikh families and withdrawing perks and facilities from former chief ministers.
The transfer of Kashmiri IAS officers to less important departments and the government’s takeover of universities, Hindu shrines, and golf clubs further indicate this agenda.
The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has empowered the Lieutenant Governor to evict locals, predominantly Muslims, labeling them as “encroachers” on their own land. This move has sparked outrage from local leaders.
Additionally, the IIOJK Waqf Board and its assets have been seized by the Indian government. The administration, led by the Lt. Governor, is now authorized to nullify sale deeds and evict locals from properties purchased from Pandits.
Local leaders have condemned the Indian government’s actions, calling them a blatant attempt to erase IIOJK’s identity and cultural heritage. The Indian Home Minister’s silence on these issues has added to the suspicion surrounding these sweeping changes.
As the situation unfolds, the people of Jammu and Kashmir remain uncertain about their future, facing an existential threat to their very way of life. India’s aggressive onslaught poses a significant threat to the way of life in IIOJK.
