An Indian army man took his own life by shooting himself with his service rifle in Srinagar city of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The army man identified as Naik P Kumar committed suicide by hanging himself with the ceiling at his unit in the Badami Bagh camp.

Indian officials while confirming the incident said the body of Naik P Kumar was discovered by his colleagues in the camp. According to preliminary investigation, the army man committed suicide and his body was taken to the Police Control Room in Srinagar for medico-legal formalities, including post-mortem.

This has raised the number of such deaths among Indian forces personnel and police to 628 in occupied Jammu and Kashmir since January 01, 2007.

It is worth mentioning here that the growing trend of suicides among Indian soldiers remains a serious concern, highlighting the deep-rooted psychological and institutional challenges within the Indian armed forces. Factors such as prolonged deployment in conflict zones like occupied Jammu and Kashmir, denial of leave, harsh behavior by senior officers, and mental health disorders due to undue excesses in Kashmir and other volatile territory contribute significantly to rising stress levels among troops. As per Indian media, over 1,100 suicides have been reported in the past decade alone.
