IIOJK’s Betrayed Struggle: UN’s Failure and Indian Oppression

January 5, 2025 Off By Sharp Media

The UN’s broken promises fuel the suffering of Kashmiris as India tightens its grip on the region, turning hopes for justice into a distant dream.

Kashmiris worldwide mark January 5 as the Right to Self-Determination Day. This solemn day reaffirms their unwavering commitment to achieving freedom through a plebiscite, a right the United Nations once promised but consistently neglects to honor.

The day commemorates the UN Security Council resolution of January 5, 1949. This resolution explicitly recognizes the Kashmiris’ right to determine their fate through a UN-supervised plebiscite. Yet, over seventy years later, the resolution gathers dust while Kashmiris endure relentless oppression.

Globally, rallies, seminars, and conferences aim to jolt the UN from its shameful slumber. These events serve as harsh reminders of the UN’s obligation to enforce its resolutions and intervene in the face of Indian brutality that has plagued Kashmir for decades.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) issues stark warnings to the international community, especially the UN. They call for immediate action to honor the pledge made to the Kashmiri people, whose fundamental right to self-determination remains unjustly denied.

Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) stands as a glaring testament to the world’s indifference. The BJP-led regime intensified state terror following the illegal revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019. Arbitrary arrests, economic strangulation, and systematic denial of rights have created a humanitarian crisis.

The APHC’s latest statement paints a bleak picture. Kashmiris live under the constant threat of violence and genocide while the international community looks the other way. Economic deprivation and daily harassment have become tools of suppression.

A clear message reverberates from IIOJK to the global stage – this suffering cannot continue. The APHC demands that world leaders press India to halt its colonial-style aggression and adhere to the UN-mandated resolutions that offer Kashmiris a voice.

The UN’s inaction not only betrays the Kashmiri people but erodes the credibility of the institution itself. A toothless United Nations signals to aggressors worldwide that international law is optional, fueling further human rights abuses.

The international community can no longer afford to turn a blind eye. Every delay costs innocent lives and emboldens India’s authoritarian grip. If the world genuinely values justice, it must force India to the negotiation table and ensure the long-overdue plebiscite finally takes place.

January 5 stands as a grim reminder of broken promises. Until those promises are fulfilled, Kashmiris will continue their relentless fight for justice, no matter the cost. The world’s silence serves as complicity in their suffering, and history will not forget this betrayal.
