Fresh Wave of Raids in Srinagar Deepens Fear and Anguish in IIOJK
May 3, 2025In an unsettled escalation of state-led intimidation, Indian forces have stormed multiple homes in Srinagar, triggering fresh outrage and fear across Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Indian troops, acting on the directives of the Indian Home Ministry and the BJP-appointed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, have launched yet another series of home raids in Srinagar, further intensifying the repressive clampdown on Kashmiri civilians.
Over a dozen homes were raided across different localities in Srinagar as part of what locals describe as an ongoing campaign of state terrorism. These operations were conducted under the controversial Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA)—a law routinely used to justify harassment, surveillance, and detention without trial.
Families targeted in these operations were left traumatized as Indian forces allegedly looted valuables, seized bank papers, house ownership documents, and digital devices, including mobile phones.
Among the residents whose homes were searched are:
- Aadil Nazir Janada (Gousia Colony, Babademb)
- Faizyab Showkat Dewani (Pather Masjid)
- Momin Ahmad Sheikh (Aali Kadal)
- Fayaz Ahmad Kullo (Rasmpora, Chattabal)
- Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar (Gani Mohallah Jamia Masjid)
- Showkat Ahmad Khandwa (Malpora Jamia Masjid)
- Muhammad Bariq Magray (Kolipora Khanyar)
- Muhammad Rafiq Shah (Hazari Bazar)
- Yasir Hayat Ahanger (Hazari Bazar)
- Sheikh Faisal Rashid (Firdous Colony, Syedpora)
- Moomin Javid Gojri (Shalimar Colony, Syedpora)
- Suhaib Bin Shafi (Gretabal Kawadara)
- Parvaiz Ahmad Shah (Naidyar Bala Khanyar)
- Imtiyaz Ahmad Khanday (Hamdaniya Colony, Bemina)
- Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh (Urdu Bazar)
- Wahid Abass (Kadikadal)
- Shahid Ahmad Lone (Chanpora Jamia Masjid)
- Imtiyaz Ahmad Chikla (Asaar Colony)
- Gulzar Ahmad Malla (Tiploo Mohallah)
- Nazir Ahmad Kandhoo (Anchar Soura)
- Shabbir Ahmad (Gojri downtown)
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has strongly condemned these actions. In a statement from Srinagar, APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas expressed deep concern over the alarming atmosphere created by these unprovoked raids.
He noted that the repeated attachment of properties, seizure of personal belongings, and terrorizing of families are all tactics aimed at silencing the Kashmiri population and suppressing their demand for freedom and self-determination.
Minhas also appealed to the United Nations to intervene urgently, calling on the international body to ensure the Kashmir dispute is resolved in line with UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
This series of raids marks yet another chapter in the widening campaign of oppression against the Kashmiri population under India’s rule. As residents live under constant surveillance and fear, the international silence grows more deafening.
