The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has condemned India’s brutal crackdown on Kashmiris, warning that India’s military aggression will never quell the Kashmiris’ rightful struggle for self-determination.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has strongly condemned India’s attempts to suppress the Kashmiris’ legitimate fight for their right to self-determination through military force. APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas stated that despite India’s oppressive tactics, it will never succeed in its sinister designs. According to the APHC, India’s ongoing occupation, the persecution of Kashmiris, the illegal detentions of Hurriyat leaders, and gross human rights violations by Indian forces have intensified tensions in the South Asian region, which is home to three nuclear powers—India, Pakistan, and China.

The APHC’s condemnation follows a particularly gruesome incident in Kulgam district, where three innocent civilians were abducted and two of them were killed while in the custody of Indian forces. This tragedy underscores the brutality faced by Kashmiris at the hands of Indian troops, who have imposed a reign of terror across the region. The statement issued by the APHC further emphasized the dire situation, with over a million Kashmiris living under siege, held hostage by more than one million Indian troops. The people of Kashmir are being denied their most basic rights, including freedom, justice, and security.

The APHC has called on the United Nations (UN) to urgently address the deteriorating situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The region is currently under extreme repression, and the continued violence risks escalating into a larger crisis, one that could have severe implications not only for Kashmir but for the entire South Asian region. In particular, the APHC is urging UN Secretary-General António Guterres to intervene in the Kashmir dispute and help bring about a peaceful resolution that respects the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. Such intervention, they argue, is crucial to preventing a potential nuclear catastrophe in the region, where India, Pakistan, and China hold nuclear arsenals.

The APHC reiterated that the people of Kashmir will not bow to India’s military aggression and that their struggle for self-determination will continue until they achieve their inalienable rights. The statement also reminded the international community of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who had promised the Kashmiri people the right to determine their own fate. However, the APHC lamented that successive Indian governments have instead pursued policies that victimize Kashmiris for demanding the fulfillment of this promise.

Moreover, the APHC demanded the immediate release of all Kashmiri leaders, youth, and activists who have been unlawfully detained. The international community, according to the APHC, must hold India accountable for its actions in Kashmir, especially since the United Nations recognizes the region as a disputed territory. The APHC emphasized that the resolution of the Kashmir dispute is the responsibility of the UN, in accordance with its own resolutions, and it is crucial that the UN prioritizes addressing the conflict.

The statement also reflected on the global apathy toward Kashmir’s plight, pointing out that Jammu and Kashmir has failed to receive the attention it deserves simply because it lacks oil reserves. Despite this, the APHC stressed that the settlement of the Kashmir dispute must align with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and should be the UN’s top priority in the interest of regional stability and peace.

The APHC’s statement reinforces the ongoing struggle for justice in Kashmir, underlining that the Kashmiri people will not surrender to India’s military occupation. The call for international intervention is not only a plea for justice but also a warning of the potential consequences if the situation in Kashmir continues to deteriorate without global intervention. The APHC remains firm in its stance that the struggle for self-determination is a legitimate, peaceful, and unwavering fight that will continue until Kashmiris are granted their basic human rights.
