Heightened Restrictions in IIOJK Ahead of Modi’s Visit

As Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to visit Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the region faces intensified security measures, sparking widespread attention and concern.

Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) is currently under tight security lockdowns as authorities implement strict measures in preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit. The increased presence of security forces and surveillance technology marks one of the most intense security arrangements the region has seen in recent months.

Modi is expected to visit the Reasi district, where he will officially inaugurate the Chenab railway bridge, a significant infrastructure project and a milestone in the completion of the 272-kilometre Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line (USBRL). As part of the same event, he will also flag off a new special train service connecting to Srinagar. This initiative is being highlighted as a major development step aimed at improving connectivity in the region.

In the lead-up to this high-profile visit, authorities have ramped up security by deploying extra forces across multiple strategic locations. Key areas like Banihal, Katra, and Srinagar have seen the arrival of additional personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and other paramilitary units. These reinforcements are being stationed to ensure a tight grip on law and order during the Prime Minister’s engagements.

Jammu, where Modi will participate in critical meetings following the inauguration, is also under elevated surveillance. Authorities have implemented comprehensive monitoring strategies, including the setup of a coordination center tasked with tracking developments in real time. This center is said to play a central role in directing security operations throughout the region.

Along side, drone units have been dispatched to oversee major sections of the railway line and surrounding areas. These drones are conducting aerial patrols to identify and respond to any potential security threats. Meanwhile, senior officials from both the police and intelligence departments are actively involved in overseeing all arrangements and ensuring no lapses occur during the visit.

Local residents have reported visible changes, such as increased checkpoints, roadblocks, and restricted movement in several areas. While the official explanation behind these actions is to maintain peace and stability during the visit, these restrictions have raised concerns among citizens about freedom of movement and daily life disruptions.
