Indian Authorities Involved in Diverting Attention from Human Rights Abuses in IIOJK

In a move seen by many as an attempt to deflect attention from its own human rights abuses in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Indian authorities have once again made unfounded allegations against Pakistan concerning recent killings in the region. This follows a surge in military operations and attacks in IIOJK that have left 12 people dead and dozens injured.

Anand Jain, the police chief of the Jammu region, speaking to reporters, placed the blame on Pakistan rather than addressing the local ground realities. This came after two youths were killed and another injured by Indian troops during a cordon and search operation in the Hiranagar area of Kathua district. Additionally, an Indian paramilitary soldier was killed in the same area. Subsequent attacks in Doda district left six Indian troops injured.

In another tragic incident, nine people, including Hindu pilgrims, were killed and over 30 injured when their bus plunged into a deep gorge in Reasi district. Indian officials claimed the bus veered off the road after being fired upon by unknown attackers, quickly attributing the incident to cross-border aggression. However, leaders from the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) dismissed these claims, suggesting that Indian agencies were responsible for the attack. They argued that the incident was part of a conspiracy to malign the Kashmiri freedom struggle and divert international attention from the severe situation in IIOJK.

APHC leaders emphasized that their movement is grounded in high human values and Islamic principles, condemning any attacks on non-combatants. They view the Indian narrative as an attempt to defame the legitimate struggle for self-determination in Kashmir.

Political experts and observers of the Kashmir conflict argue that India often plays the victim card and blames Pakistan for its internal failures. They accuse New Delhi of using falsehoods as a statecraft tool to defame Pakistan and undermine the Kashmiris’ righteous struggle. These experts assert that Pakistan remains committed to a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute, supporting the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination as outlined by international law and relevant UN resolutions.
