Gujarat University Adds Modi Tattva and RSS Studies to Sociology Syllabus in Bold Move Toward Saffronization
May 3, 2026The decision by Maharaja Sayajirao University in Gujarat to include Modi Tattva and RSS studies in its sociology syllabus is a shameful move. It shows how higher education is being turned into a factory for political propaganda. Instead of teaching students to think for themselves the university is now forcing them to study a political leader as a holy figure. This is a clear attack on the independence of our educational institutions.
The Dangerous Creation of a Political Personality Cult
By adding a module called Modi Tattva the university is literally building a personality cult around the Prime Minister. They are using old academic terms to hide the fact that they are teaching students to worship a sitting politician. Sociology is supposed to analyze power not celebrate it. This move ruins the credibility of the degree and treats students like followers instead of scholars.
Legitimizing the RSS as an Academic Standard
The university is also teaching the RSS as a model of social inclusion which is a complete joke. The RSS has always been a controversial organization with a very specific and narrow agenda. Calling it a model for grassroots outreach in a formal syllabus is a lie. It is a direct attempt to give academic cover to a right wing group that should be studied critically not praised in classrooms.
A Systematic Effort to Wipe Out Real History
This is not just about one university in Vadodara. Across India the government is erasing history that does not fit its narrative. They have already removed chapters on the Mughals and the contribution of Muslims from school books. They even deleted parts about the extremists who killed Mahatma Gandhi. This is a systematic plan to brainwash the youth by hiding the diverse and complex truth of our past.
The Total Collapse of Academic Freedom in India
India is now at the bottom of global rankings for academic freedom. We are in the bottom thirty percent of countries because the state now controls what happens in the classroom. Professors are scared to speak the truth and universities are being run by political appointees. When a syllabus is written to please the ruling party the value of that education becomes zero.
The Massive Network of Ideological Brainwashing
The RSS already runs over twelve thousand Vidya Bharati schools where millions of children are taught a narrow version of history. Now that same narrow thinking is taking over public universities. This ensures that a student is exposed to only one ideology from childhood to graduation. It is a dangerous cycle that destroys the ability of the next generation to tolerate different views or religions.
Ignoring the Real Diversity of Indian Society
India belongs to everyone but these new courses focus only on a Hindu centric view of sociology. By ignoring the realities of minorities and marginalized groups the university is failing in its duty. They are replacing modern scientific thought with religious concepts to push a political agenda. This narrow focus will leave students unprepared for the real world which is diverse and multicultural.
Turning Universities into Propaganda Centers
State funding is being used to pay for this political rebranding. Administrators are acting like party workers rather than educators. The introduction of the Bharatiya Knowledge System is being used as a shield to push backward ideas into the curriculum. This is a direct waste of public money and a betrayal of the parents who send their children to universities to get a real education.
Destroying the Global Image of Indian Degrees
If our universities become centers for political indoctrination our degrees will lose respect worldwide. International scholars and employers want thinkers not parrots who repeat government slogans. By turning sociology into a praise session for the government the university is destroying the future career prospects of its own students. No serious institution will respect a curriculum based on a political essence.
Restoring Intellectual Integrity in the Classroom
We must stop this push to turn education into a political tool. The classroom must be a place for debate and critical questions. Replacing real social theories with political modules is a massive step backward for India. If we do not protect our universities from this saffronization we will end up with a generation that cannot think for itself. True education should open minds not close them with political propaganda.
