War leaves nothing behind but graves,” warns Mehbooba Mufti, as she calls for renewed efforts towards peace between India and Pakistan in the conflict-ridden region of IIOJK.

In the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has firmly reiterated that war is not a viable path to resolve conflicts. Instead, she emphasizes the urgent need for sustained peace efforts and dialogue between India and Pakistan.

Speaking at a media interaction in Srinagar, Mufti stated that armed conflict leads only to devastation, with innocent civilians bearing the brunt of the violence. “War does not solve any problem. It brings nothing but destruction and the loss of innocent lives on both sides,” she stressed.

Highlighting the fragile nature of the current ceasefire agreement between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, Mufti urged both nations to actively work toward maintaining it. She emphasized that the agreement should not be taken for granted and must be safeguarded through sincere diplomatic efforts.

“There is a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, and it is crucial we ensure it holds. Both countries must take steps to preserve this peace,” she added.

Mufti also invoked the leadership of former Indian Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Dr. Manmohan Singh, who, according to her, had proven that constructive dialogue and cross-border engagement are achievable—even during tense political climates.

“They showed that peace is possible when there is political will. We need to follow their example and prioritize conversation over confrontation,” she said.

She did not hold back her criticism of those who speak against the ceasefire from privileged positions. “People who criticize the ceasefire while sitting in air-conditioned studios or drawing rooms should spend time with families living near the border. Only then will they understand the fear and trauma caused by constant shelling and violence,” Mufti remarked.

Her comments come at a time when border tensions and political rhetoric continue to endanger the fragile peace process in the region. She emphasized that real progress would only come when both nations recognize the futility of war and invest in dialogue and reconciliation.

By advocating for diplomacy and highlighting the human cost of conflict, Mehbooba Mufti has added a powerful voice to the call for peace in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Her message is clear: the path to lasting stability lies not in warfare, but in understanding, empathy, and consistent political engagement.
