Daily Wage Worker Protests for Unpaid Wages in IIOJK
March 11, 2025For years, daily wage workers in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have struggled for their basic rights, yet their voices continue to be ignored by those in power.
A daily wage worker employed with the Wildlife Department in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) staged a protest outside the assembly, demanding the payment of his long-overdue wages.
Bilal Ahmed Dar, a casual worker, held up posters with the slogan ‘Roti Do Ya Phansi Do’ (Give us livelihood or hang us), symbolizing the dire financial crisis faced by daily wagers like him.
Speaking to reporters, Dar revealed that he has been working in the Wildlife Department for the past 15 years without receiving regular wages. “Casual workers and daily wagers like me are suffering. We have families to support, yet we are not paid for our hard work. I protested here last month as well, but nothing has changed,” he stated.
Expressing his frustration, Dar questioned whether authorities wanted workers to resort to desperate measures. “Do they want us to commit suicide? Is that the only option left for us? We request the Chief Minister’s intervention to ensure our wages are paid,” he pleaded.
Dar also highlighted the plight of 754 other daily wage workers employed in the Wildlife Department who continue to provide services without receiving proper payment. He called it a grave injustice and demanded fair wages and regularization of their employment status.
The ongoing wage crisis has left many struggling to survive, raising serious concerns about labor rights and government accountability in IIOJK. Workers continue to demand urgent action to resolve their financial hardships and secure their livelihoods.
