Growing political tension surrounds Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) as Congress IIOJK President Tariq Hameed Karra accuses the Modi-led Indian government of negligence and security failures.

Tariq Hameed Karra, president of the Congress party’s Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) chapter, has sharply criticized the Indian government over recent developments in the region, including foreign involvement in ceasefire negotiations and lapses in local security.

Speaking at an event in Islamabad district, Karra questioned the government’s failure to enhance security measures at Baisaran meadow, a well-known tourist destination in South IIOJK’s Pahalgam area. His remarks followed reports of an attack at the site.

According to Karra, there were intelligence warnings about a potential threat at Baisaran at least three days before the incident took place. He expressed disbelief at the government’s inaction, asking, “Why was Baisaran not secured like other tourist spots in IIOJK?”

He argued that the lapse reflects poorly on the government’s preparedness and concern for public safety, especially in high-traffic areas frequented by visitors and locals alike.

Karra also took aim at the Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for what he termed “third-party intervention” in IIOJK’s affairs. He pointed to a tweet from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed credit for brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan and offering to mediate on the Kashmir issue.

“A tweet comes from Trump announcing a ceasefire, and it is simply accepted here,” Karra said, suggesting that such decisions undermine state’s sovereignty and weaken its diplomatic posture.

He further questioned the foreign policy choices made by the Indian government, particularly referencing External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s claim that India had notified Pakistan in advance of missile strikes within Pakistani territory.

“Who fights a war by giving prior notice?” Karra asked, casting doubt on the seriousness and strategic logic behind such actions. He said these revelations have raised alarms about how national security and foreign relations are being handled.

In addition to concerns about military conduct and international diplomacy, Karra addressed the declining state of tourism in the IIOJK. He echoed sentiments shared by senior Congress leader G.A. Mir, who blamed the BJP-led administration for the recent drop in tourist arrivals.

Mir noted that tourism—once a pillar of the region’s economy—has suffered due to ongoing political instability, travel advisories, and perceived threats to safety.

Both leaders called for urgent corrective steps, emphasizing that real peace and stability can only be achieved through transparency, accountability, and the restoration of trust in governance.
