As tensions continue over the Kashmir issue, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar urges US President Donald Trump to fulfill his previous promise to help resolve the longstanding conflict.

Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, the acting chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP), has expressed optimism that the newly elected US President, Donald Trump, will honor his earlier commitment to address the Kashmir dispute. In a recent letter to President Trump, Saghar appealed for the United States to play a more proactive role in resolving the ongoing conflict in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Saghar’s letter highlighted the enduring nature of the Kashmir dispute, emphasizing its devastating effects on the region. He pointed out that the conflict has caused decades of unrest, widespread human rights violations, and the militarization of IIOJK. He also reminded Trump of his past offer to mediate in the dispute, which was initially welcomed by the Kashmiri people but rejected by the Indian government.

The JKDFP leader referenced the United States’ historical involvement in the Kashmir issue, particularly its role as a co-sponsor of the UN resolution that guaranteed the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people. Saghar expressed hope that under Trump’s leadership, the new administration would prioritize conflict resolution, specifically in relation to IIOJK, which he described as a source of ongoing instability and human rights violations in the region.

The letter serves as a reminder of the international community’s responsibility in addressing the Kashmir issue and the role the United States can play in helping to bring about a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Saghar’s appeal reflects the urgency of finding a lasting solution to a dispute that has caused immense suffering to the people of IIOJK for decades.
