February 1, 2025Senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq underscores the humanitarian nature of the Kashmiri Pandit return, emphasizing unity and peaceful reintegration, as he calls for an end to political exploitation of the issue.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has recently highlighted that the return of Kashmiri Pandits is primarily a humanitarian issue, urging that it should not be politicized or tied to the larger Kashmir dispute. In a recent media interview, Mirwaiz emphasized that the Muslim community in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) eagerly awaits the return of the Kashmiri Pandits and remains committed to ensuring their peaceful reintegration into society.
He stressed that the Pandits are an integral part of the Valley’s history and culture, asserting that they belong to Kashmir just as much as their Muslim brethren. According to Mirwaiz, the Pandits should feel safe to return to their ancestral homes, promising that they will be able to live peacefully, as they once did, in an atmosphere of mutual love and harmony. He strongly believes that their return is not only possible but should be viewed as an essential step toward rebuilding the fabric of Kashmiri society.
Mirwaiz further shared that he has continuously appealed from the pulpit of the Jamia Masjid for the return of the Kashmiri Pandits, emphasizing the importance of trust-building and collective efforts in their rehabilitation. “The majority community will play its role in welcoming them, but they too must work towards bridging differences,” Mirwaiz stated, underlining the need for a joint effort to ensure the peaceful return of the Pandits.
The senior leader also noted that he has had discussions with Kashmiri Pandit delegations to explore possible steps for their return, signaling his commitment to fostering unity and reconciliation. These discussions aim to develop a roadmap for the return that promotes mutual understanding and cooperation. Mirwaiz highlighted the importance of trust between the two communities and the need to create a space for dialogue and healing.
Currently in New Delhi, Mirwaiz has been engaging with Muslim leaders, intellectuals, and think tanks to discuss various pressing issues affecting Muslims, including the controversial Waqf Bill. In his discussions, he reaffirmed the Kashmiri Muslim community’s commitment to peaceful coexistence with the Pandits, emphasizing the centuries-old bond shared between the two communities.
By emphasizing the importance of unity, trust, and collective effort, Mirwaiz’s statement on the return of Kashmiri Pandits highlights the importance of a compassionate and inclusive approach. His calls for peace and harmony are a testament to his ongoing efforts to bridge gaps between communities and promote a more peaceful future for IIOJK.
