Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas: The visionary who defied tyranny to ignite Kashmir’s enduring quest for freedom.

On the 57th death anniversary of Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas, Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Convener of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chapter, paid a heartfelt tribute to the towering figure of the Kashmir liberation movement. Abbas, remembered as a stalwart of principle and vision, remains a beacon for the ongoing struggle for Jammu and Kashmir’s freedom.

Safi praised Abbas’s firm commitment to the Kashmir cause, including his numerous arrests under the oppressive Dogra regime, marked him as a symbol of resistance against injustice. Safi highlighted Abbas’s rare blend of saintly character and principled leadership, emphasizing his empathy for the broader Muslim Ummah, which inspired generations.

Abbas’s activism began in his youth, where he stood resolutely against the tyranny of both British colonial rulers and the Dogra regime. His efforts for the emancipation of Muslims in the Indian subcontinent, particularly in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), positioned him as a visionary leader with an unshakeable commitment to justice. Safi asserted that Abbas’s legacy as a shining star in the Kashmir freedom movement remains irrefutable.

The tribute also served as a rallying cry to continue the work left incomplete by Abbas. Safi urged unity and relentless effort among the people of IIOJK to achieve the freedom their forebears sacrificed so much for. Honoring Abbas, Safi stated, means not only remembering his immense contributions but actively pursuing his mission with the same courage and determination.

Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas’s life serves as a powerful reminder of the relentless struggle against oppression and the unyielding pursuit of justice. His legacy, deeply interwoven with the fabric of Kashmir’s freedom movement, continues to inspire resistance against tyranny and the hope for liberation.
