The Centre for International Strategic Studies, Azad Jammu Kashmir (CISS-AJK), recently held a notable book talk in Muzaffarabad, where Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, a respected academic and author, presented his latest work, Nuclear Arms Control in South Asia: Politics, Posture and Practices. The event aimed to deepen the understanding of nuclear strategies in the South Asian region, according to an official handout.

Dr. Asma Shakir Khawaja, Executive Director of CISS-AJK, along with her research team, opened the event by welcoming Dr. Jaspal and other distinguished guests. Dr. Jaspal then introduced key themes from his book, highlighting how his work steps away from traditional historical perspectives and instead offers new insights into nuclear arms control in South Asia, particularly focusing on the evolving policies and stances of regional players.

Dr. Jaspal underscored Kashmir’s significant role as a strategic hub in South Asian security, emphasizing the region’s importance in global nuclear discussions. He pointed out the specific challenges South Asia faces, where India’s limited involvement in nuclear arms control complicates regional stability.

A lively question-and-answer session followed, allowing attendees to explore topics raised in the book. Dr. Khawaja concluded the event by presenting Dr. Jaspal with a commemorative souvenir and thanking participants for their engagement, which enriched the session and made it a success.
