High Court to Review LG’s Powers in IIOJK

A special division bench of the High Court in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) is set to hear a significant plea regarding the lieutenant governor’s authority to nominate five members to the Legislative Assembly.

Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan has agreed to form this special bench to address the public interest litigation (PIL) challenging these nominations, as confirmed by petitioner Ravinder Sharma.

The plea had previously been brought before the Indian Supreme Court on October 14, but the court declined to take it up, directing the petitioner to approach the high court instead.

Following this, Sharma’s counsel, D.K. Khajuria, successfully requested an expedited hearing in the high court. Chief Justice Rabstan responded by convening a special bench for Monday to deliberate on the matter.

Ravinder Sharma, a former member of the Legislative Council and senior vice president of the Pradesh Congress Committee, attended the court session, emphasizing the importance of this legal challenge.
