Tanvir Sadiq Warns of Alternative Plans if IIOJK Statehood is Not Restored
March 2, 2025As the demand for Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s (IIOJK) statehood intensifies, the National Conference (NC) hints at alternative strategies if the Indian government fails to act.
National Conference leader and spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq has stated that if the statehood of IIOJK is not restored soon, they will be forced to consider “Plan B and Plan C.” His remarks come at a time when the people of the region are growing increasingly frustrated with the prolonged uncertainty over their political status.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Sadiq expressed optimism that the Indian government would address the issue in the coming months. He remained hopeful that the region’s full statehood would be restored soon, emphasizing that resolving this matter is crucial for maintaining stability and trust in governance.
Highlighting the ongoing administrative challenges, Sadiq criticized the current dual power structure in IIOJK. He stated that this system has created governance issues and inefficiencies, making it difficult to address the needs of the people effectively. According to him, respecting the strong mandate given by the people in the Assembly elections is essential, as it reflects their aspirations for self-governance.
Sadiq also took a strong stance against the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), blaming them for the current situation in IIOJK. He remarked that the PDP should not dictate political decisions to the NC, as they are responsible for many of the region’s ongoing problems. He assured that the NC would work towards fulfilling all the promises made in its election manifesto and address key issues affecting the people.
Furthermore, Sadiq questioned the BJP’s decade-long rule in IIOJK, pointing out its failure to implement certain laws. He specifically raised the issue of why the BJP had not introduced bills such as a ban on alcohol despite being in power for the past ten years. This, according to him, exposes the ruling party’s lack of commitment to governance and policymaking.
He also accused the PDP and BJP of working together behind the scenes to prevent the proper functioning of the legislative assembly. According to Sadiq, both parties are attempting to manipulate the political landscape to their advantage rather than focusing on the welfare of the people.
With uncertainty still looming over the restoration of statehood, the National Conference’s warning about alternative plans signals that political tensions in the region may escalate if the Indian government does not take action soon. As the demand for self-governance continues to grow, all eyes are now on the central authorities to see whether they will fulfill their long-standing promises to the people of IIOJK.
