PDP President Condemns Arrest of Bar Association President in IIOJK
July 12, 2024Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has condemned the arrest of High Court Bar Association President Nazir Ahmed Ronga in Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
In a statement, Mehbooba Mufti criticized the ongoing cycle of violence in IIOJK, stating that the Indian government has not only failed to restore normalcy but is also venting its frustration by launching a vicious crackdown on helpless Kashmiris. She emphasized that Nazir Ronga is the latest victim of the BJP government’s oppressive actions.
Indian police arrested Nazir Ahmed Ronga during a house raid in the Nishat area of Srinagar and booked him under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA). Ronga is the second president of the lawyers’ body to be arrested recently. Prominent lawyer and former president of the Bar Association, Mian Abdul Qayoom, was also arrested last month from his residence in Srinagar on false charges by the New Delhi-installed IIOJK regime.
These arrests highlight the ongoing repression in the region and the targeting of individuals who challenge the government’s actions. Mehbooba Mufti’s condemnation reflects the broader discontent with the current administration’s handling of the situation in Kashmir.
