Pakistan and Iran Unite for Peace in South Asia with Strong Emphasis on Kashmir

As regional tensions persist, Pakistan and Iran are reaffirming their united stance for peace in South Asia, with a renewed focus on resolving the Kashmir dispute through dialogue and diplomacy.

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Pakistan and Iran have reiterated their shared commitment to permanent peace in South Asia, emphasizing that the resolution of the Kashmir conflict remains crucial for regional stability. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian met in Tehran at the Sa’dabad Palace during the Pakistani leader’s official visit to Iran, Turkiye, and the UAE.

Both leaders agreed that peaceful relations with neighboring countries form the foundation of their foreign policies. They stressed that lasting peace in the region, especially between Pakistan and India, depends on addressing the core issue of Kashmir in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Prime Minister Shehbaz stated that Pakistan emerged stronger from its recent conflict with India, thanks to the valor of its armed forces and the unwavering support of its citizens. He affirmed that Pakistan seeks peace through diplomacy and is ready to discuss all key matters, including the Kashmir dispute, trade, and water rights—provided India engages sincerely.

However, he warned that continued Indian aggression would compel Pakistan to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity by all means. Shehbaz underlined that Kashmir is not merely a political issue but a humanitarian one, requiring urgent international attention and resolution through peaceful means.

Iranian President Pezeshkian reiterated his country’s strong support for Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. He emphasized that Iran and Pakistan share common perspectives on regional matters and have always supported the right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination.

Iran’s consistent backing of Pakistan’s position on international platforms such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) further strengthens diplomatic momentum toward a just resolution of the conflict.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also paid a courtesy visit to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei. During the meeting, the premier briefed the Iranian leader about India’s aggressive posture and its attempts to unilaterally change the status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He expressed gratitude to Iran for standing in solidarity with Pakistan during this challenging time.

The discussion highlighted mutual concerns over India’s hegemonic policies and the need for a peaceful solution to ensure stability and prosperity in the region.

The renewed Pakistan-Iran partnership sends a clear message to the international community: sustainable peace in South Asia cannot be achieved without resolving the Kashmir issue. Both nations remain committed to diplomatic efforts, regional cooperation, and advocating for the rights of the Kashmiri people.
