The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has reaffirmed its firm commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people’s struggle for freedom and self-determination, emphasizing the need for a resolution of the Kashmir dispute in line with relevant United Nations and OIC resolutions. During a meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha reiterated the organization’s principled stance and briefed the Prime Minister on the OIC’s efforts to raise awareness about the plight of Kashmiris and advocate for a fair and just resolution to the conflict.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep appreciation for the OIC’s steadfast support for the Kashmir cause. He also used the occasion to condemn Israel’s ongoing actions against Palestinians in Gaza, describing them as a genocidal campaign. The Prime Minister called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, humanitarian access for the besieged population, and accountability for Israel’s alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The OIC Secretary General echoed these concerns, stressing the importance of pressuring the international community for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. He highlighted the necessity of a two-state solution to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
In addition to the Kashmir and Palestine issues, the two leaders discussed other pressing regional and global matters, including the rise of Islamophobia. Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to advancing the OIC’s shared goals and strengthening its role as an effective collective voice for the Muslim world.
