Occupation authorities implement Facial Recognition System in IIOJK
June 15, 2025In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Modi-led occupation regime has installed a Facial Recognition System (FRS) along the Pahalgam route of the Amarnath Yatra in Islamabad district, in blatant violation of the privacy and rights of the local population.
The system is being used as a tool of surveillance, harassment, and intimidation, further deepening the atmosphere of fear among the residents. Locals say the move delays routine civilian movement and adds to the intrusive measures already in place under military occupation.
The FRS technology scans and analyses facial features from digital photographs or video feeds to find matches against a centralised database, raising serious concerns about mass data collection and abuse under occupation.
Indian occupation forces are installing a similar surveillance system on the shorter Baltal route before the annual Amarnath Yatra begins on July 3.
The yatra will conclude on August 9, coinciding with the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan.
