Modi’s Campaign of Property Confiscation Continues in Kashmir

The Narendra Modi-led Indian government persists in its aggressive campaign to seize the properties of innocent Kashmiris in the illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, purportedly as a means to punish them for their association with the ongoing freedom movement. According to reports, the Modi regime has recently targeted five Hurriyat activists in Bandipora and Ganderbal districts, including Irfan Ahmad, Lateef Khan, Mohammad Hussain Shah, and Waliullah.

This latest move follows the Indian authorities’ prior confiscation of the headquarters of All Parties Hurriyat Conference in Srinagar, along with numerous residences and properties belonging to Hurriyat leaders such as Syed Ali Gilani Shaheed, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Aasiya Andrabi, and Jamaat-e-Islami throughout occupied Kashmir. The occupation authorities have also been implicated in the demolition of residential houses, shops, shopping complexes, and other properties in the region.

The frequent attachment or confiscation of Kashmiris’ properties by India has become an alarming norm in occupied Kashmir, reflecting a disturbing pattern of targeting individuals to coerce them into withdrawing their support for the ongoing freedom struggle. This relentless action is undeniably a manifestation of political vendetta on the part of Modi’s Hindutva regime.

In addition to property seizures, Indian troops have been consistently destroying the homes of Kashmiris during violent military operations. The wanton demolition of properties, illegal confiscations, and forced evictions are integral components of India’s systematic campaign aimed at crippling the Kashmiri population economically.

It is crucial to underscore that Modi’s strategy is not only a violation of human rights but also a futile attempt to suppress the unwavering determination of the Kashmiris for freedom. India’s brutal military occupation and colonial tactics have failed to suppress the Kashmiri resolve in the past, and there is no indication that this approach will yield different results in the future.

The international community must take cognizance of the severe consequences of India’s actions in Kashmir. Modi’s government must be held accountable for its blatant disregard for human rights and its persistent violation of the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. The world should urge India to cease its state terrorism and fulfill its commitment to grant the Kashmiri people the opportunity to determine their own political future. The ongoing suffering of innocent Kashmiris demands a global response to bring an end to this cycle of oppression and injustice.
