MMU’s Stand Against Sectarian Discord in IIOJK
July 23, 2024Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU), led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has vowed to prevent any attempts to spread sectarian discord in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). This stance comes amidst accusations against Narendra Modi’s Hindutva regime of inciting communal differences.
Following a meeting at Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s residence in Srinagar, MMU released a statement reaffirming its commitment to maintaining communal harmony. The coalition of various religious scholars and clergy emphasized the need for mutual respect among different sects and schools of thought.
MMU appealed to scholars, mosque imams, and social media influencers to respect others’ beliefs. They urged everyone to avoid targeting other sects in lectures, sermons, or social media discussions, as such actions could lead to conflict.
The special meeting, presided over by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, included notable figures such as Maulana Rahmatullah Mir al-Qasimi and Agha Syed Hassan al-Moosvi al-Safawi. The attendees emphasized unity under the banner of Tawheed to address the community’s challenges.
MMU condemned recent efforts to incite sectarian discord, calling them regretful and reprehensible. They stressed that respect for all religious personalities of Islam is essential for maintaining unity among Muslims.
The MMU underscored the detriment of exploiting minor differences for narrow sectarian objectives. They stated that such actions harm the broader interests of the Muslim community in Kashmir.
As a responsible forum representing Kashmiri Muslims, MMU vowed to confront disruptive elements and hold them accountable. They also called upon the Kashmiri Muslim community, civil society, and media to maintain communal cohesion during these challenging times.
The meeting concluded with a decision to broaden the forum by including more religious organizations and leading scholars from across Jammu and Kashmir. This move aims to strengthen inter-Muslim unity and MMU’s influence in fostering communal harmony.
