Increased Restrictions Intensify Hardships in Jammu and Kashmir
July 10, 2024Authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have intensified restrictions along the Srinagar-Jammu highway. Additional paramilitary troops from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Indian police have been deployed along the highway to bolster security.
Enhanced security measures include increased CCTV camera surveillance, metal detector scans by patrol teams, and drone monitoring of public movement. A dog squad has also been deployed to enhance security efforts.
“These measures are particularly crucial for Amarnath Yatris,” stated a senior officer. “We have deployed additional forces and implemented strict security protocols to ensure the safe passage of the Amarnath Yatris.” However, while these actions are purportedly to ensure the safety of Hindu pilgrims, the actual aim appears to be to harass Kashmiri commuters, further exacerbating their hardships.
The increased security presence and stringent measures have significantly impacted daily life for local residents. Kashmiri commuters face delays, invasive searches, and constant surveillance, adding to their sense of insecurity and frustration.
The situation highlights the ongoing tension in the region. While the safety of pilgrims is important, the measures taken should not come at the expense of the local population’s freedom and well-being.
International observers and human rights organizations continue to monitor the situation closely. There is a growing call for a balanced approach that ensures the safety of all individuals without infringing on the rights of the local population.
