Contrary to Peace Claims, Armed Resistance Challenges Persist in IIOJK
July 28, 2024Despite the Modi government’s assertions of restoring peace in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), armed resistance remains a significant challenge. According to the Jammu-based English daily, *Kashmir Times*, the Kashmir Valley has witnessed 263 incidents of violence since 2021, resulting in the deaths of 68 Indian troops. Additionally, the Jammu region has experienced an uptick in violence, with 49 soldiers killed during the same period.
The newspaper questioned the Modi government’s claims of peace amid these ongoing killings. The expansion of armed resistance into the Jammu region poses a new challenge for the Indian armed forces, indicating that peace and stability are far from being achieved.
Political parties attribute the recent attacks to the failure of the BJP-led Indian government and its poor governance in the territory. The Modi regime’s assertion that the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A would bring peace to the territory has been contradicted by the recent escalation in attacks and gunfights. This situation highlights the persistent unrest and the ongoing struggle for self-determination in the region.
The report underscores the need for a reassessment of the government’s strategies and policies in IIOJK, as the current approach has not yielded the promised peace and stability. Instead, it has led to further escalation and loss of lives, challenging the government’s narrative of restored normalcy
