Congress to Launch Agitation Against BJP Policies in IIOJK
July 18, 2024The Indian National Congress in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) will start an agitation tomorrow against the BJP-led Modi government’s anti-people policies.
Congress leaders Bharatsinh Solanki and Vikar Rasool Wani announced that the party will protest in all districts against BJP policies, including the increased powers granted to the Lt Governor.
The Congress demands the restoration of statehood before the Indian Supreme Court’s September 30 deadline for holding Assembly elections. They argue that empowering the Lt Governor undermines the authority of an elected government, further damaging the historic region by revoking statehood and special status.
The Congress leaders accused the BJP of using power to maintain control and exploit Jammu and Kashmir’s people and resources. They emphasized the need for full statehood restoration before Assembly elections, as mandated by the Supreme Court.
They criticized the BJP for giving extensive powers to the Lt Governor ahead of the elections, claiming it would render the elected government ineffective. The Congress leaders compared such a government to a municipality, with the Chief Minister having minimal power.
Referring to the INDIA Bloc’s recent by-election success, where it won nine out of eleven seats, the Congress leaders noted that BJP only secured two seats. They believe this trend will continue in Jammu and Kashmir, as people increasingly desire change.
