APHC Marks India’s Independence Day with Calls for Kashmir Freedom
August 15, 2024The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Kashmir (APHC-AJK) held a protest in front of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad today. The demonstration was marked by black flags to signify discontent on India’s Independence Day.
Protesters voiced strong opposition to India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir. They chanted slogans advocating for Kashmiri freedom and self-determination.
Speakers at the rally highlighted the ongoing sacrifices of Kashmiris in their struggle for freedom over the past 78 years. They emphasized that India’s oppressive measures will not win the hearts of the Kashmiri people.
The demand for a plebiscite was underscored as a fundamental right of the Kashmiri people. The protesters vowed that the struggle for liberation from Indian control would persist.
They also called on the United Nations to intervene and help resolve the Kashmir dispute peacefully. The UN was urged to facilitate a fair and impartial referendum, addressing the issues stemming from India’s actions of August 5, 2019, which were deemed illegal by the protesters.
Among the speakers were APHC-AJK convenor Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Shameem Shawl, Senator Allama Nasir Abass Jafri, and Muslim League’s Chaudhry Shafiq. Bari Imam media coordinator Syed Hasnain Bukhari and MLA AJK Assembly Raza Qadri also addressed the crowd.
The protest saw participation from various Hurriyat leaders and displaced Kashmiri members, all united in their call for justice and freedom. They urged the UN Security Council to take action and ensure a peaceful resolution to the long-standing Kashmir issue, aiming for lasting peace in the South Asian region.
