APHC Appeals International Community for Intervention in Kashmir
May 23, 2024The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has called upon Pakistan to mobilize the international community to protect the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir from the threats posed by Indian occupation forces and the anti-Kashmir agendas of the BJP-RSS led regime in India. In a statement issued in Srinagar, the APHC leadership appealed to peace-loving nations worldwide to urgently address the peril faced by Kashmiri leaders, youth, journalists, human rights defenders, Ulemas, and activists, who are at risk of being terrorized, harassed, and detained on false charges in the territory.
The APHC emphasized Pakistan’s critical role as a key party to the Kashmir dispute, urging it to take effective measures to highlight the severe threats to the lives of millions in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The statement underlined the need for Pakistan to rally international support and bring attention to the human rights abuses occurring in the region.
Furthermore, the APHC called for the immediate release of political detainees, including prominent Hurriyat leaders Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Syeda Asiya Andrabi, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Farooq Ahmed Dar, and others. These leaders have been charged and imprisoned under what the APHC describes as fabricated allegations, as part of a broader strategy by the BJP to suppress political dissent and leave the Kashmiri resistance movement leaderless.
The APHC criticized the ongoing crackdown on dissent in Kashmir, viewing it as a deliberate attempt by the Indian government to stifle the political voice of Kashmiris. The framing of charges against key figures in the Hurriyat movement is seen as an effort to weaken the resistance and undermine the struggle for self-determination.
The call for international intervention is rooted in the APHC’s belief that global awareness and pressure are crucial to addressing the human rights violations and ensuring the safety and freedom of the Kashmiri people. The leadership stressed that the international community has a moral and political responsibility to intervene and prevent further escalation of violence and repression in the region.
This appeal comes amidst heightened tensions and ongoing reports of abuses by Indian security forces in Kashmir, including arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, and restrictions on freedom of speech and assembly. The APHC’s statement serves as a reminder of the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict, one that respects the rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
