AIMIM Slams BJP and RSS over Hindutva’s Assault on Ajmer Sharif Dargah
November 29, 2024Asaduddin Owaisi condemned the BJP and RSS for their divisive claims targeting Ajmer Sharif Dargah, with Hindu extremists alleging it was built on a Hindu temple, sparking communal tensions.
Owaisi highlighted the dargah’s 800-year legacy, emphasizing its importance since the Mughal era when Emperor Akbar constructed significant structures there. Post-Mughal rule, the Marathas controlled the area, followed by its purchase during British rule. Notably, Queen Elizabeth funded a water house there in 1911, and Indian Prime Ministers, including Narendra Modi, have sent offerings to the revered site. Despite this, BJP and RSS continue to sow discord, questioning the sanctity of Islamic sites.
Owaisi accused the BJP of eroding India’s secular values by fostering hatred toward mosques and dargahs. He condemned their disregard for laws protecting places of worship and questioned the judiciary’s impartiality amid rising attacks on minority sites. According to Owaisi, this strategy aims to dismantle India’s social cohesion and fuel animosity.
Raising a thought-provoking argument, Owaisi warned of a dangerous precedent. If Hindutva narratives gain ground, falsely claiming mosques were temples, Muslims could similarly assert that mosques once stood where temples now exist. Such narratives, he asserted, are part of the BJP and RSS’s agenda to polarize India, undermining its pluralistic ethos.
Owaisi also called attention to recent police brutality in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, where four Muslim youth were killed during communal violence. He condemned this as state-sponsored violence under the BJP regime, accusing the party of weaponizing hate to marginalize Muslims and destabilize harmony.
Further stoking tensions, the far-right Hindu Sena recently filed a petition claiming the Ajmer Sharif Dargah was built on temple ruins. The court’s acceptance of this petition has alarmed many, with fears of escalating violence and disputes over religious sites.
This relentless targeting of Islamic heritage, Owaisi argued, is an orchestrated attack to rewrite India’s history and marginalize its Muslim population. He urged all Indians to resist this divisive agenda, warning that such policies will unravel the nation’s secular fabric.
