Attempted Suicide by Pakistani Detainee Questions Fairness of India’s Legal System

A distressing incident recently unfolded in Central Jail Alwar, Rajasthan, India, as Hamid Khan, a 60-year-old resident of District Pasheen Baluchistan, attempted suicide. This tragic act sheds light on the grim reality faced by numerous Pakistani prisoners, highlighting the need for urgent attention and international intervention.

The suicide attempt by Hamid Khan underscores the prolonged incarceration endured by many Pakistani prisoners, some serving sentences for up to a decade. Among the approximately 347 Pakistani citizens in Indian jails, comprising 249 civilians and 98 fishermen, most are ensnared in fabricated cases.

Both India and Pakistan routinely exchange lists of prisoners twice a year, yet the repatriation process remains sluggish.
