With over 800 days of protest and promises unfulfilled, PHE Department workers in Jammu are demanding urgent action for the regularization of their services and the release of their long-awaited wages.

The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department workers in Jammu, including daily wagers, staged a powerful demonstration outside the office of the Chief Engineer, demanding the regularization of their services and the release of their pending wages. The protest, organized under the banner of the PHE United Front, was led by Rajinder Singh Taj and other union leaders who voiced their concerns for the workers.
The workers assembled at the PHE Complex, Jammu, to express their frustration over the lack of progress on their long-standing issues. They have been waiting for the release of their wages for the past 84 months, with no action taken despite repeated promises from the authorities. In addition to unpaid wages, the workers have been fighting for the regularization of their services, a demand that has yet to be addressed by the government.
The protest has been ongoing for over 800 days, with the workers sitting in front of the office of the Chief Engineer, PHE Department, Jammu, as part of their strike. Despite multiple meetings with higher officials in the department, the workers’ issues remain unresolved, further intensifying their frustration.
Rajinder Singh Taj, the union leader, spoke to the media about the plight of the workers, who have been on strike since June 2022. He criticized the government’s lack of action, stating that despite assurances from the Lieutenant Governor’s administration, their demands have not been met. The workers’ situation continues to worsen, with no clear resolution in sight.
Taj also highlighted that political parties, including the National Conference and Congress, had promised to address the regularization of the workers’ services during election campaigns. However, as the budget session begins, these promises have not been fulfilled. Taj and other leaders are now calling on the Chief Minister and Congress leaders to keep their word and include provisions for the regularization of PHE daily wagers in the upcoming budget.
The workers’ demands are clear: they want their wages released and their services regularized. The ongoing protest is a plea for the government to fulfill its promises and address the hardships faced by these workers, who have been without pay for years.
The PHE workers’ protest in Jammu underscores the ongoing struggle for fair treatment and justice for daily wagers. As they continue their protest, the workers are determined to ensure that their voices are heard and that their demands are finally met by the authorities.
