Backlog of GPF Bills in IIOJK Causes Financial Hardship for Employees
February 13, 2025A mounting backlog of General Provident Fund (GPF) bills in IIOJK has left employees struggling financially, with no explanation from authorities, creating widespread frustration and disillusionment.
The continuous delay in clearing General Provident Fund (GPF) bills in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) has left many government employees in financial distress. Treasuries have failed to process clearances, causing significant delays without offering any reasonable explanation. Despite repeated appeals, the administration has shown little interest in addressing the issue, highlighting its apparent indifference toward the financial well-being of employees.
Employees are now calling for the immediate release of their pending funds, expressing frustration over the situation. What was once a reliable source of financial security during emergencies has become, as many employees put it, “an unreliable fund.” One claimant, who has been waiting for the clearance of their GPF bill for months, explained that the GPF was intended to be accessed in times of need, but due to the government’s delay, it is no longer fulfilling that purpose.
Sources from the IIOJK Finance Department have confirmed that bills amounting to crores of rupees remain pending at various treasuries. Despite daily reminders to the government, no funds have been released, compounding the difficulties faced by employees. The mounting backlog has led to increased frustration among workers, who feel that their hard-earned savings are being withheld without justification.
Wajahat Durrani, President of the Employees Joint Action Committee, emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that the delay in GPF withdrawals has become a pressing issue for employees. He noted that many workers have been facing these challenges since the reorganization of IIOJK, with some employees experiencing delays even after their retirement. He cautioned that the government’s continued inaction could lead to growing dissatisfaction among government employees.
As the financial difficulties of employees escalate, they are calling for immediate intervention. The frustration is reaching a boiling point, with employees warning that if the authorities do not take swift action, protests could erupt in response to the administration’s perceived apathy toward their financial needs.
