Complete Shutdown in IIOJK on the Martyrdom Anniversary of Maqbool Butt Tomorrow
February 10, 2025Tomorrow, Kashmiris will observe a complete shutdown to honor the memory of a brave leader, Muhammad Maqbool Butt, whose sacrifice continues to inspire the fight for freedom.
Tomorrow, a complete shutdown will take place in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to mark the 41st martyrdom anniversary of Muhammad Maqbool Butt. The call for the strike has been issued by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) along with other pro-freedom groups. This act of defiance is a tribute to Butt’s courageous stand for Kashmiri freedom.
Muhammad Maqbool Butt was executed secretly by India in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February 11, 1984. He was hanged for his pivotal role in raising the demand for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. Butt’s death marked a dark chapter in Kashmir’s struggle for freedom.
Despite numerous demands from Kashmiris, India refused to return his mortal remains to his family. Butt was buried in the premises of Tihar Jail, which has become a symbol of Indian oppression. His family, along with Kashmiris, continues to demand his remains for a proper burial.
In their statements, Hurriyat leaders emphasized that Muhammad Maqbool Butt’s sacrifice will never be forgotten. They described his execution as a judicial murder, underscoring the injustice done to him. For Kashmiris, Butt’s martyrdom symbolizes a rejection of India’s colonial rule over their land.
The people of Kashmir have always held Butt in high regard. His refusal to compromise on the demand for freedom, even at the cost of his life, has made him a symbol of resistance. His actions reflect the larger struggle of Kashmiris seeking justice and autonomy from Indian rule.
Pro-independence leaders in IIOJK have repeatedly stated that martyrs like Butt are the real treasures of the Kashmir liberation movement. Their sacrifices are seen as the foundation of the ongoing struggle for freedom. The memory of these martyrs motivates every new generation to continue the fight.
The call for the strike is not just a commemoration of a fallen hero but a reaffirmation of the determination of the Kashmiri people. The sacrifices made by Butt and other martyrs will not go in vain. Their mission for a free Kashmir remains alive, with the people committed to achieving their goal.
Muhammad Maqbool Butt’s martyrdom anniversary serves as a reminder of the immense sacrifices made by Kashmiris for their right to self-determination. It highlights the ongoing struggle against Indian oppression and the determination to never forget those who have given their lives for the cause of freedom.
