The recent killing of two civilians by Indian troops in IIOJK has ignited widespread anger, prompting demands for thorough investigations and accountability from authorities.

The killing of two civilians by Indian forces has caused widespread anger and condemnation, with growing calls for immediate investigations into the deaths in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The two separate incidents have brought attention to the escalating violence and lack of accountability within the region.

The first incident occurred in Kathua’s Billawar area, where 25-year-old Makhan Din was detained on suspicion of being an Over Ground Worker (OGW). Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti wrote on social media platform X, highlighting that Din was allegedly tortured during his detention, forced into a confession, and found dead under mysterious circumstances. Mufti demanded an independent investigation into his custodial death, urging the Police Chief to hold those responsible accountable. She pointed out that this incident is part of a troubling pattern where innocent youths are being targeted on fabricated charges.

In response to the incident, authorities sealed off the area and suspended internet services, escalating the panic and anxiety among local residents. There are reports suggesting that Indian forces have increased crackdowns in the area, resulting in additional detentions.

Meanwhile, a second incident occurred in Sopore, Baramulla, where a civilian was shot and killed by the Indian Army after allegedly failing to stop at a checkpoint. This incident has also sparked outrage, especially from Iltija Mufti, the daughter of Mehbooba Mufti, who expressed shock over the “unbridled impunity” of Indian troops. On social media, Iltija questioned the value of Kashmiri lives and criticized the ongoing pattern of violence. “How long will you justify this unbridled impunity by pointing everyone with the needle of suspicion?” she wrote.

The twin killings have caused a wave of outrage across both political and civil society circles, with growing demands for justice and transparency. The public is calling for an end to the arbitrary targeting of civilians, and the demand for accountability is becoming louder each day. Local police authorities have urged the people to maintain peace and order, but the calls for justice continue to gain momentum.
