Kashmiri Students Rally Against Modi’s Flawed Reservation Policy in Delhi
December 15, 2024Kashmiri students demand justice, decrying Modi’s reservation policy for marginalizing merit and alienating youth.
Students from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) staged a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, vehemently opposing the Modi regime’s reservation policy in the region
Organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA), the demonstration drew participation from students, political leaders, and activists united in their condemnation of the policy. They denounced the framework for undermining merit and perpetuating injustice.
Nasir Khuehami, JKSA Convenor, criticized the policy, asserting it fails to address the demographic complexities of Jammu and Kashmir. “The current framework distorts justice, marginalizes deserving candidates, and disregards merit-based opportunities,” Khuehami said.
The protesters demanded a proportional reservation system reflecting the region’s population dynamics. They stressed that such a shift would promote fairness and equity for all communities.
Prominent figures joined the protest, including Awami Ittehad Party leader Sheikh Aashiq, Kashmiri Pandit leader Sanjay Sapru, and activist Mir Mujeeb. These voices underscored the policy’s detrimental impact on the aspirations of the youth.
Sheikh Aashiq emphasized that merit-based opportunities must not be sacrificed to discriminatory political agendas. Sapru called for unity in the fight against policies that alienate Jammu and Kashmir’s youth, regardless of religious or ethnic backgrounds.
The JKSA has issued a stark warning to the Modi government: failure to rationalize the reservation system will spark widespread protests across the region. “We will not rest until our demand for equality is met,” Khuehami declared.
Such disregard for justice threatens to further isolate Jammu and Kashmir’s youth, already grappling with systemic discrimination and marginalization under the current administration.
This protest is not an isolated event but part of a broader struggle against policies imposed on Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. The Modi government’s actions consistently disenfranchise the region’s youth and undermine their future prospects.
The protesters called on New Delhi to adopt a rational, inclusive approach. The continuation of discriminatory policies will only deepen resentment and fuel unrest in the region. Justice and equal opportunity must be prioritized over political opportunism.
