Modi’s Development Mirage: Death Toll Mounts on Killer Roads in IIOJK

Narendra Modi’s grand claims of progress and development in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) stand in glaring contradiction to the grim reality on the ground. Over 5,000 lives have been tragically lost in road accidents over the past six years, making IIOJK one of the deadliest regions in India for road fatalities. This alarming statistic lays bare the regime’s neglect and indifference toward the safety and welfare of the Kashmiri people.

On average, more than 900 people perish annually in road mishaps across the region, a chilling figure that underscores the government’s failure to address critical issues. Despite Modi’s high-pitched rhetoric about modernizing IIOJK, the infrastructure remains abysmal. Poorly constructed roads, inadequate signage, and dangerously maintained highways have turned routine travel into a daily gamble with death.

Experts and activists point out that the government’s inaction continues to fuel this preventable crisis. Repeated recommendations for upgrading infrastructure and improving emergency services have been met with silence. Promises to create modern road networks remain nothing more than hollow declarations, while the people of IIOJK are left to bear the deadly consequences of negligence.

The absence of trauma centers along critical highway routes has further compounded the problem. Victims of accidents often succumb to their injuries due to delayed medical care, a tragic and entirely avoidable failure. In a region already grappling with oppression and violence, the lack of basic amenities such as functional emergency services adds another layer of suffering to the lives of ordinary Kashmiris.

This appalling state of affairs exposes the Modi government’s so-called development agenda for what it truly is—a sham designed to mislead the international community. While billions are spent on promoting a facade of progress, the Kashmiri people are left to navigate crumbling roads and unsafe highways that claim hundreds of lives each year.

Instead of focusing on real development and addressing the needs of the people, the regime has diverted its resources toward military domination and demographic engineering in IIOJK. This blatant prioritization of control over care has left the region trapped in a vicious cycle of neglect and despair.

The mounting death toll from road accidents is not merely a statistic; it is a testament to the Modi government’s indifference to human life in IIOJK. The people of IIOJK deserve better than empty promises and callous disregard—they deserve safety, dignity, and genuine development.
