BJP’s False Claims of Normalcy in Kashmir: A Deliberate Deception
November 20, 2024The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has repeatedly asserted that the security situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) has improved since the revocation of Article 370. However, these claims are starkly contradicted by the reality on the ground.
The heavy security presence serves as a glaring contradiction to the government’s assertions. Far from being an indication of stability, the extraordinary security measures deployed reveal the true nature of the situation—one of ongoing insecurity and fear. The overwhelming presence of armed forces painted a grim picture—one of forced control, not peace.
The BJP’s claim of a safer, more secure Jammu and Kashmir rings hollow when viewed through this lens. If the situation had truly improved, why would the government need to implement such extreme security measures for a religious event? The military overreach only exposes the instability that persists in the region. The government’s attempt to project normalcy is nothing but an attempt to cover up the ongoing chaos.
Furthermore, the issue of Article 370 remains unresolved. While the BJP insists that the region’s situation is now “better,” the removal of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status will ultimately be reversed. Drawing a parallel to India’s long struggle for independence that took 200 years to achieve freedom, restoring Article 370 will be a matter of time. The BJP may delay it, but the truth will eventually prevail.
The government has also boasted of a significant drop in stone-pelting incidents since 2019. However, this claim falls apart when considering the thousands of young Kashmiris still locked up. Their continued imprisonment raises serious doubts about the government’s reports. The suppression of dissent and the absence of basic freedoms cannot be disguised by fabricated statistics.
The situation in IIOJK is far from the “normalcy” the BJP claims. The ongoing security crackdowns, widespread repression, and unanswered questions about the region’s future all point to the fact that the BJP’s narrative is one of denial. Kashmir’s struggle for its rights and autonomy is far from over, and the government’s attempts to mask the truth will ultimately fail.
