UN Must Hold India Accountable for Atrocities in IIOJK: APHC
October 15, 2024The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has issued a desperate plea to the United Nations, demanding intervention to hold India accountable for its ongoing atrocities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
In a statement from Srinagar, APHC spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas condemned the brutal actions of the Indian regime. These include torturing innocent Kashmiris, seizing their properties, and violently suppressing their right to self-determination.
Minhas highlighted how Indian forces—comprising paramilitary, police, and investigative agencies—are terrorizing Kashmiris to stifle their legitimate demands for self-rule. The BJP government is manipulating the judiciary to intimidate anyone who opposes its oppressive policies.
This systematic oppression targets Hurriyat leaders, journalists, scholars, and ordinary citizens with baseless charges. Kashmiris advocating for their political beliefs are being unjustly imprisoned under draconian laws. Despite these brutalities, the resolve of the Kashmiri people to fight for their freedom remains unbroken.
Minhas urged the United Nations to fulfill its role in resolving the Kashmir dispute as outlined in UN resolutions. He warned that without intervention, the region could descend into chaos, similar to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East due to the unresolved Palestinian issue.
The spokesman lamented that New Delhi is weaponizing its agencies to instill fear among Kashmiris. The BJP regime uses the judiciary as a tool to further oppress dissent. Hurriyat leaders, media figures, and even regular citizens are facing fabricated charges, further entrenching a culture of fear.
Kashmiris dedicated to the freedom struggle are being criminalized simply for their beliefs and their calls for a plebiscite. The resilience of the Kashmiri people in the face of such brutal repression is commendable, yet it underscores the urgency for global human rights organizations to address these injustices in IIOJK.
Minhas emphasized the need for international bodies to take serious note of unlawful detentions and human rights violations in IIOJK. The situation is dire, and the silence from the global community is deafening.
The continuing oppression in IIOJK is a humanitarian crisis that demands immediate action. The world must not turn a blind eye to the suffering of the Kashmiri people. If the UN and other international entities fail to act, they will be complicit in the ongoing violations.
The Kashmir issue cannot be swept under the rug any longer. Immediate intervention is essential to safeguard the rights and freedoms of the Kashmiri people and to ensure accountability for India who is perpetrating these heinous acts.
